Why are tournaments rated?

The people who play them do it more for the tickets than the points and are typically rated 1400-1700. Anyone with a high rating 2000+ has to make a huge points overlay thereby discouraging them from playing. Seems like unrated tournaments would increase parcipitation.

points?

I don't think that most players care about points. There are some on here that seem 2b proud of their high rating with their losing stats. High ratings don't put beans and weenies on the table. Ladder points and rankings all that matters.

WELL SAID B500B... YOU ARE CORRECT.. WE TD's HAVE TRIED SETTING SPECIFIC "NON RATED" TOURNAMENTS FOR A WHILE NOW.. BUT HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE FROM THE HIGH POINT RATED PLAYERS. THOUGH IT WOULD MAKE SENSE THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO JOIN WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING THEIR COVETED RATINGS.. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED.
